WHAT DID JESUS DO?

By Tony Ciarlante

There’s been a fad among Christians running through the last few years of “WWJD”,
meaning, “What Would Jesus Do?” Numerous Church youth groups pass out
WWJD bracelets to the kids to remind them to pause when faced with a decision
and then ask themselves, “What would Jesus do in this situation?”

Nice. Except that it’s been my experience when talking to many of these bracelet
wearers, that their interpretation of how to approach this brings up an image of
Jesus as some sort of sixties flower child flashing a peace sign and tip-toeing his
way through the earth spreading love, careful not to bend a blade of grass. They
then get all gooey when they try to think of what Jesus would do and usually miss
the mark by a mile.

GOD the Father sent His only begotten son, Jesus, to the earth to be the exact
representation of Father God to the earth. Jesus said, “He that has seen me, has
seen the Father,” (John 14:9) and, “I and the Father are one.”(John 10:30)
Jesus was sent to earth in part to reveal Father God to mankind, He explained, “He
that sent me is true, and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of
Him… I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these
things… for I do always those things that please Him.” (John 8:26, 28, 29)
So then, just what did Jesus do? Jesus replied with scripture and always followed
the commandments of the Father and He instructed us to do the same, “If you keep
my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s
commandments, and abide in His love.” (John 15:10)

I have seen Jesus through God’s Word, the Bible. I have seen Jesus, transform
lives, answer prayer and perform miracles. I have seen Jesus through the testimony
of others and I have seen Jesus work in my own life. So if I have seen Jesus and I
know who He is, then I have seen God the Father through Jesus, because He and
the Father are one.

With this being the clear-cut undeniable truth of scripture, it really bothers me when
I hear Christians who pray for the sick in a halting, half-hearted manner, such as,
“Father, if it be thy will, heal this person,” or praying first to seek the will of God
regarding how to pray, or what to pray over the sick.

Did Jesus heal the sick? Yes, over and over again everywhere He went Jesus
healed the sick. Was this the will of God that Jesus healed the sick? YES! Jesus
only did the will of God, even at His most trying moment agonizing in the Garden of
Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but thine be done”, (Luke 22:42).

Jesus only did the will of the Father, and as God’s example to us, He only did what
God would do, never His own will, only the Father’s will.
You can’t read more than about ten minutes through the gospels without finding
Jesus healing the sick. How many did Jesus heal? What does scripture say?
Matthew 12:15, “He healed them all.” Luke 6:19, “He healed them all.” In Matthew
4:24 He healed them all. In Luke 4:40 He healed them all. The book of Acts records
the preaching of the gospel by the apostles this way, “How God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and
healing all that were oppressed of the devil.” (Acts 10:38)

So what did Jesus do? He healed them all, and He only did what God the Father
would do. So does your Heavenly Father want you sick? NO! Jesus healed them all.
James, the earthly brother of Jesus says that when you are tempted or afflicted with
evil, “Let no man say, ‘I am tempted of God’, for God cannot be tempted with evil,
neither tempts He any man.” (James 1:13) The apostles were taught by Jesus that
sickness comes from the devil, not from God. (See Acts 10:38 above)
Jesus taught His disciples, “Lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.”(Mark
16:17) Why? Because it is the will of the Father, it is what the Father would do.
Our Heavenly Father said, “I am the LORD that healeth thee.” (Exodus 15:26) “And I
will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” (Exodus 23:25)

James, brother of Jesus, was the leader of the church at Jerusalem, and gave these
instructions to the church, “Are any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of
the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the
Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.”
(James 5:14-15)

So let us pray boldly, understanding that good health is the will of Father God
toward all of His children, sickness is a curse which has not come from God, and
pray in faith believing that,”the Lord shall raise him up.”
